Isn’t it great being English – all you Scots, Welsh and Irish feel free to snigger – I know I’ve mentioned it before, but we seem to have become simultaneously awful at every sport known to man.
It’s not like we’re known for being brilliant anyway, but we won the Egg Chasing World Cup, we beat the Aussies in the Ashes and we... er well OK I won’t mention footy... and things were looking good.
Now, mere months down the line, we’re officially crap at everything again.
Ho hum.
Here are last week results to cheer you up. Unless, perhaps, if you’re a Torquay fan:
Aston Villa 1 Vs 1 Middlesbrough
West Ham 1 Vs 0 Sheff Utd
Plymouth 1 Vs 2 Leeds
Preston 0 Vs 0 Crystal Palace
Yeovil 0 Vs 2 Scunthorpe
Nottm Forest 3 Vs 1 Millwall
Darlington 1 Vs 0 Milton Keynes Dons
Peterborough 5 Vs 2 Torquay
Unsurprisingly not even the most pessimistic of the Torquay faithfull predicted a five goal onslaught. However 74 of you did think Forest would romp home easily from Millwall.
More impressively 47 peeps actually predicted the outcome of a Leeds match. I can only assume they were all wild guesses - form is a concept that has gone hideously out of fashion oop Yorkshire way.
So who plucked out the highest total from that lot?
1 – Eccha (Div79) – 1300pts
---------------------------------------------------
2 - x1mdr (Div44) – 1200pts
---------------------------------------------------
3 - kenzie_14 (Div56)– 1100pts
3 – chelmsfordsam (Div8) – 1100pts
3 - ianstewart1972 (Div4) – 1100pts
3 - Luc le fluke (Div25) – 1100pts
So a massive bunch of congratulations go to Eccha who, on his/her (they haven’t specified which) very first attempt at our little game, busted out the biggest total of the week.
This was achieved by guessing the perfect outcome for four matches (Darlington, Plymouth, Hammers and Villa) plus the usual solitary result (Forest).
Impressive stuff.
Next weeks games include: The Proper London derby (Arsenal v Spurs), The Over-Achievers Charity Grudge Match (Pompey v Villa) and err.. Accrington Stanley V Shrewsbury.
Also if you signed up for the FPLCup in time you will also notice the extra cup fixture at the bottom of the list. This weeks chosen class takes us north of the boder for some Scottish Cup action between Falkirk and Rangers.
All you have to is to predict the outcome of the single match AND, as a tie-breaker, predict what you think the attendance will be at the match. If you do better than your randomly chosen opponent, you’ll see the same again next week!
Have fun with that, and I’ll speak to you soon.
