I’m an English Liverpool fan, as I’m sure you aware by now.
At the start of August the fire of pre-season optimism was the strongest that I have remembered in a long, long time.
Rafa had seemingly bought well, we beat Chelsea in the Charity Shield and England had sacked the Swede... even McLaren was looking positive.
Oh how those roaring fires of hope are so quickly urinated on by the Gods of footballing reality.
However, with football (and life in general) you’ve always go to remember it could be worse – I mean I could be a Leeds fan!
Here are last weeks results:
Chelsea 2 Vs 1 Portsmouth
Everton 2 Vs 0 Sheff Utd
Luton 5 Vs 1 Leeds
Preston 2 Vs 1 Hull
Leyton Orient 2 Vs 0 Cheltenham
Yeovil 1 Vs 0 Oldham
Accrington Stanley 1 Vs 2 Walsall
Stockport 1 Vs 0 Torquay
As you might expect, nobody picked the mighty Leeds to suffer back-to-back maulings – though one person did get mighty close with a 4-1 predicted win for the Hatters.
Barring that all the other results were pretty standard, and fairly predictable.
Did anybody take advantage?
1 - TIM (Div14) – 1800pts
--------------------------------------------------
2 - AFC davidlancs (Div13) - 1600pts
2 - runtcrab (Div48) - 1600pts
2 - redsno1 (Div16) – 1600pts
--------------------------------------------------
3 - Jemma (Div23) - 1500pts
3 – tjt (Div21) - 1500pts
3 - high/h (Div4) - 1500pts
3 - tracysboys (Div36) - 1500pts
3 - zempt (Div5) - 1500pts
3 - weenie (Div12) - 1500pts
Well cor blimey guv’nor, you lot certainly did!
TIM really made the most of the opportunity by weighing in with the highest weekly total of the season so far.
His cracking 1800pts was amassed by collecting points from every single match – five of which were absolutely spot-on.
Awesome stuff!
Amongst all this hoo-hah swizzfamily quietly laid claim to his second Premiership Crown. swizz has now been in the top flight for an amazing 27 consecutive seasons!
Of course now I've mentioned it he is doomed to now enter a catastrophic free fall.
Ah well congratulations on the win, enjoy it while you can ;o)
Next weeks games include teams like Bolton, Coventry, Brighton, Tranmere and Lincoln. See what you can do with that little lot.
Before I toddle off, I've been asked to warn you of the imminent arrival of our annual FPL Cup competition.
To give you a bit of respite from the trench warfare of week-to-week league play we let you slap it out with each other with a bit of knock out one-on-one action.
There aren't many details yet, but if you like the idea head over to 'The Game' section on the site, click the 'FPL Cup' link on the right and then follow the instructions.
See you next week.
